This board will allow you to use the keyboard from a TI99/4A as a USB keyboard on a modern PC. (It will not let you use a USB keyboard on a TI99/4A).
This can use useful for testing TI99/4A keyboards, or to convert a dead machine into a USB keyboard or integrate a Raspberry Pi or other single board computer inside.
The keys are all mapped in the firmware on the board to the most appropriate keys on a modern USB keyboard.
The TI-99/4A has quite a nice keyboard with individual mechanical keys witches, although a limited number of keys. The FCTN key is used to replace missing keys. FCTN + number keys on the top row act like functions keys F1 through F10, FCTN + keys with symbols on the front give those keys, FCTN + keys with arrows on give cursor keys. There is no delete or backspace key marked on the keyboard, so the FCTN + the key on the top right (+/=) is used for backspace.
This auction is for the built and tested USB keyboard controller board, a USB A-B lead and mounting pillars. No computer case or keyboard is included.
See the photo gallery for mounting suggestions. The board is fitted on the underside of the lid of the case. Note the orientation of the PCB with respect to the keyboard.
There is a three pid header to wire up an LED to replace the one in the power supply (not included).
I am currently in the process of clearing out the stock of built and tested boards I have left. I have no plans to make any more of these USB keyboard controllers.
