This is the Intel 8049 co-processor chip used within the Sinclair QL home computer to manage the serial ports, sound and QL Network.
Designed to work alongside the ZX8302 ULA, the 8049 acts as a keyboard/ joystick buffer, RS232 receive buffer and sound generator. Some QLs have a 8749 chip, which is the EPROM version of the Intel 8049.
This is the plastic version of the 8049 chip, in 40-pin side-brazed DIP.
Fully working and in excellent condition. We have both NEC and Phillips versions - please specify if you prefer one specific version.
The 8049 can also be replaced by the Hermes Co-Processor which provides improvements to sound, serial ports and keyboard bounce
