This board will allow you to use the keyboard from a Commodore 64 (or VIC 20) as a USB keyboard on a modern PC. (It will not let you use a USB keyboard on an Commodore 64).
This can use useful for testing C64 keyboards, or to convert a dead machine into a USB keyboard or integrate a Raspberry Pi or other single board computer inside.
The keys are all mapped in the firmware on the board to the most appropriate keys on a modern USB keyboard.
This versions features a mode switch which can be used to change between two keyboard mappings. The normal one is designed to use with a modern PC. When the mode switch is pressed, it changes to a mode which follows Vice positional mapping to give a 1:1 mapping of the C64 keys in the emulator. See link below for key mappings.
There is a 3 pin connector which can be used to drive the normal LED. This will be on in one mode, off in the other (depending which way you connect it). Alternatively, you can fit a tricolour LED (not included) to the three pin header which will show green for normal / desktop mode and red for emulator mode.
This auction is for the built and tested USB keyboard controller board, a USB A-B lead and mounting pillars. No computer case or keyboard is included.
See the photo gallery for mounting suggestions. The board can be fitted to the base of the case with the USB connector accessible via one of the DIN connectors, or can be mounted on the back of the keyboard.
I am currently in the process of clearing out the stock of built and tested boards I have left. I have no plans to make any more of these USB keyboard controllers.
