This board will allow you to use the keyboard from an Amiga 500 as a USB keyboard on a modern PC. (It will not let you use a USB keyboard on an A500).
This can use useful for testing A500 keyboards, or to convert a dead machine into a USB keyboard or integrate The A500 Mini, or a Raspberry Pi or other single board computer inside. (note the A500 Mini does not currently support the USB game controllers, so it is keyboard only) - see more info on fitting The A500 Mini inside an Amiga 500 - http://blog.tynemouthsoftware.co.uk/2022/04/amiga-500-usb-keyboard-and-dual-joystick.html
The keys are all mapped in the firmware on the board to the most appropriate keys on a modern USB keyboard. The / key on the numeric keypad has been mapped as F12 for use with emulators.
The LEDs on the Amiga keyboard are drived by this board, the power LED is constant and the floppy LED is mapped as Numlock. Some software can be configured to flash numlock as a disk activity indicator. The caps lock LED works as normal.
There are two joystick ports which appear as two game controllers with an X and Y axis and three buttons. The pinout matches that used on many home computers and games consoles in the 1980s (excluding the Atari 7800 and the Spectrum +2 which do not follow this standard).
- 1 = Up
- 2 = Down
- 3 = Left
- 4 = Right
- 5 = Fire 3 (not usually connected)
- 6 = Fire 1 (the normal fire button)
- 7 = 5V
- 8 = GND
- 9 = Fire 2 (not usually connected)
Mice are not supported, only standard 9 way D Atari / Commodore joysticks.
This version has a USB type B connector fitted where one of the audio out jacks were. See my other listings for a version with audio jacks to pass through audio from a Raspberry Pi or other coumputer mounted inside.
This austion is for the built and tested USB keyboard controller board, a USB A-B lead and mounting pillars. No Amiga 500 case, joysticks or keyboards are included.
