Acorn Computers Limited a été créée en 1978 et, comme Sinclair Research Limited, a été créé par un ancien employé Sinclair, Chris Curry (en collaboration avec Hermann Hauser) et était basé à Cambridge, qui a conduit à une grande rivalité entre les deux sociétés .
