Description

These are Flash EPROM chips, in a special low profile carrier designed to replace the now defunct 2364 ROM chip, used widely in early computers, such as the Sinclair ZX80, Sinclair ZX81, Vic-20, Commodore 64 (Kernal, Basic and Character ROM), Commodore 1541 Disk Drive (DOS/Drive ROMs), and Timex-Sinclair TS1000 and TS-1500 computers.

The original 2364 ROM chip is a very unusual 24 pin ROM chip (8x8 Kbit) which can now only be programmed on very specialised EPROM programmers (due to the voltages required).  There was also a second chip, which could be used at a push (it was pinout compatible) - the Motorola MCM68764, although that chip too was discontinued many years ago.

NOTE: there was also a 28 pin version of the 2364 ROM (for example, the TMM2364P from Toshiba). Therefore ensure you need the 24 pin version (this was sold by Toshiba as the TMM2366P)!

The ROM-el 2364 Flash ROM replacement is extremely low profile, using about the same space as an original 2364 chip, whilst using a Atmel Flash chip (AT49F001AN) which can hold 1Mbit (128kB) of code. In addition, overflow addressing lines are available on the ROM-el to enable bank switching and other targeted ROM applications.

You will need to make a convertor to program this in an EPROM programmer (the chips are supplied blank) - so you will need to make a AT49F001 to 2364 pinout converter, or we can program the chips with a ROM of your choice (please supply the binary) for an additional fee of £4.
